The Pier
at Harwich

With the temporary closure of Maison Talbooth over the winter period there has never been a better time to visit Harwich.
Just over three years ago we created a completely new look for the Harbourside Restaurant on the first floor and the Ha’penny Pier Bistro on the ground floor now has a similar feel to milsoms. To a certain extent we have been the victim of our own success! Visitors entering the building for the first time think “this looks
very good” and have no reason to think that there is an another restaurant on the first floor.
We are therefore encouraging everyone to take ‘the 24 steps’ to The Harbourside. We are currently marketing the Harbourside as
Harwich’s best kept secret and hope that this will not be the case for long… so please take the 24 steps.
It is well worth the effort! The calm modern décor leads the eye
to the lovely views over Harwich Harbour with the Stour and
Orwell estuaries beyond. With the close proximity to the sea the
cooking focuses on fresh seafood and head chef Chris Oakley takes full advantage of what’s available daily. Typical dishes might include crispy white crab claw stack with lemon & dill dressing or seared king scallops on cauliflower puree with a sweet caper dressing followed by roast cod and crisp shrimps on spinach with gremolato potatoes or pan fried Dover sole with nut brown butter, and of course local lobster is always on the menu served simply in a salad or in a thermidor - delicious! And who could resist warm apple and date pudding with toffee
sauce and maple syrup ice cream for pudding?
