What’s cooking at The Pier of Harwich?

Last week a group of Year 6 students from Wix Primary School visited The Pier for a chance to look behind the scenes in the kitchen and the restaurant. With all the children sporting Chef’s hats, Head Chef Chris Oakley showed them how to make a variety of dishes including pizza, bread rolls and fish fingers. Chris then gave them a chance to taste both the home made and the shop bought equivalent to decide which tasted the best – Chef’s version every time!

Then it was into the bar to sample a Pier Dolphin (a non alcoholic cocktail) followed by a quick lesson in napkin folding by Nick Chamber, the hotels General Manager – who knows he may have been looking for future recruits?

Chris Oakley said ‘It was great to welcome Wix Primary School to The Pier and I was relieved they chose my cooking above a supermarket variety. I think it’s very important to build up links with local schools and show the students that good home cooked food is quick, easy and above all fun to prepare’
