Undoubtedly the best ways to explore the Dedham Vale are by or a gentle cycle or by canoe and paddleboard (more of that in another post!) on the river Stour . With this in mind, visitors to milsoms in Dedham will see a rather handsome bike complete with basket, advertising bike and canoe hire if you are staying or visiting Dedham.
We thought this was a great idea and judging by the interest, our guests definitely agree! There is no better way to discover the Stour Valley than on bike or a gentle meander down the river. Canoeing along the Stour is very special and makes you realise and appreciate what so inspired the artist, John Constable. Speak to the kitchen and the chefs will even supply a packed lunch to enjoy on your travels. Our contact, Gordon Hardy can supply a variety of bikes for all ages, stages and fitness as well as one man, two man or family canoes as well as all the safety equipment you’ll need such as life jackets and helmets. Also included will be a map of the local area with various places of interest marked along the way.
If you are feeling more energetic you could head out to Harwich and enjoy lunch at one of our other properties, The Pier. There are several designated cycle routes that take you through quite lanes and by roads on the Tendring Peninisular to Harwich and of course, the one of the main attractions is that Essex is fairly flat county!
