Last week was a busy one for the team in The Hangar at Kesgrave Hall starting off with back to back lunch and dinner events on the Thursday followed by the inaugural Gee Whizz ‘Secret Garden Charity Ball’ on Friday 14th October. In all the team catered for over 800 people in 32 hours – as you can imagine quite a logistical feat but accomplished without a hitch!
Gee Whizz was set up by fundraiser and campaigner Gina Long last December as a charitable foundation mainly to support disabled youngsters and families affected by cancer, in the same month Gina found out that she had been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Honours in recognition of her charitable work.
The Ball raised an amazing £61,000 and attracted a host of celebrities and well known sporting and business personalities from around Suffolk and beyond. Star of the show was Laura Wright, herself a Suffolk girl who attended Framlingham College as well as comperes for the evening Chris Hollins and Graeme Swann.
One of the key recipients from the ball will be Kim Sale a Kesgrave High School pupil, who was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare from of cancer which meant she had to have her right leg amputated. Her family plans to purchase a sports blade in order to help Kim realise her dream of participating in the Paralympic Games.
