Milsom Hotels are proud supporters of the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Auction & Ball which aims to raise £1,000,000 for the Sir Bobby Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Online Auction

Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Auction is a massive and innovative online auction intended to raise capital for the funding of the Bobby Robson Foundation and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. More and more celebrities are joining their hands for this sacred cause. With the Internet connecting people all over the globe, anyone is free to take part in this program.

This year’s auction is now live until October 27, 2013. Similar to any other online auction, offers will be presented for people to bet on. But the offers are much unlike those in ordinary auctions; they range from luxurious escapes and golf gateways to lunch meet and greets with numerous football stars. For example, one of the awards is spending a whole week in the British Virgin Islands on an award-winning catamaran. Also among this year’s offers in Sir Bobby’s Auction is lunch with Andre Villas-Boas, the current manager of the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

Taking part is easy: just visit the Sir Bobby’s Breakthrough Website, sign up, and begin placing your bets. Please also consider donating a prize, donations are being accepted up until 25th October and will help us reach the £1million target for this truly worthy cause.

About Sir Bobby Robson

Sir Bobby Robson will always be remembered as a British hero. Everyone knows Sir Bobby’s great achievements in football. He was a success as a player and also a tremendous football manager. As a young player, Bobby Robson was a great footballer. His colourful football life remains as a winning legacy in big British teams like Fulham and West Bromwich. Bobby Robson’s legacy does not end at a national level. He was an international star, too. In his twenty appearances for England, Bobby Robson scored four goals for his country.

As a football manager, Sir Bobby Robson’s success was equally outstanding. In fact, no other manager of the English national team did what Sir Bobby did for England after a long time: he qualified for the 1990 World Cup Semi-final after 1966. Sir Bobby Robson managerial career also includes his coaching other teams, which led him to win trophies at home and in Spain. The goals completed while coaching his first ever team, Fulham, are unforgettable. But this great man had to live with cancer.

Cancer and Sir Bobby Robson

A fighter in football, Sir Bobby Robson was a fighter in life, too. Sir Bobby Robson’s cancer challenge was seriously tough. His cancer attacks were intermittent and rather severe. When diagnosed for bowel cancer in 1992, Sir Bobby took treatment and defeated it. He also defeated a malignant melanoma three years later in 1995, but that was neither the end nor the worst.

Perhaps his greatest cancer challenge came in the year 2006. In this time, a tumour developed in his right lung, and another tumour developed in his brain. Bobby Robson stood defiant as he endured tough treatments to combat the sickness, and he won again. Unfortunately, yet another attack came in 2007: his fifth cancer diagnosis, with nodules spotted in both of his lungs. Sir Bobby had to live with chemotherapy to control their growth, but despite the numerous battles with cancer he’d won, it was this attack that was declared terminal. Sir Bobby Robson devoted his remaining short life to helping those who suffer from cancer, and set up the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation in 2008. He died in July of 2009.

Since its first launch on March 25, the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was able to raise around 1 million euros in just seven months. The acquired money was used to fund another institute that was launched by Sir Bobby named Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre in Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital. Sir Bobby Robson’s courageous and exemplary battle against cancer is now inspiring millions to help fight cancer.
