NEW TO Maison Talbooth comes the luxury aromatherapy brand – Aromatherapy Associates, producers of therapeutic-grade bath, body and skincare products to be found in exclusive hotels and spas worldwide.

Vanilla were invited to sample one of their bespoke aromatherapy massages and what better time than on a Sunday morning following a hard night of partying.

A consultation with the Aromatherapy Associates trained therapist kicks off my 90-minute session as she attempts to devise a treatment plan for me according to how I (well, my body) is feeling today.

Dehydrated – check; stiffness in joints – check; disturbed sleep – check; lacking energy – check. I sniff various essential oils and am told to pick the strongest, most intense aroma (apparently this can change from one day to the next) and my prescription is decided upon, ‘an intensive muscle release massage’.

To start, Helen my therapist, prepares the oils while I sip some iced water and make myself comfortable in the chic surroundings of The Treatment Rooms at Maison Talbooth.

She lets me inhale some hypnotically mind-calming frankincense oil, then begins an intensive and restorative massage that works deep into the skin to ease tight, aching muscles. Swedish and cross muscle fibre massage techniques are combined with the internationally acclaimed De-Stress Muscle Gel and Oil to instantly release any pain and tension, massaged top-to-toe, the focus is very much on pressure points.

Carefully applied pressures stimulate the nervous system, relieve muscular tension, and lymphatic drainage helps encourage a healthy circulation. Feet, hands, scalp and face are included and it makes all the difference – it’s like having a body massage combined with some ‘Indian Head’ and reflexology thrown in for good measure.

By the end of the treatment I feel relaxed and recharged and my dry, dehydrated skin feels as soft as butter plus I have an unearned healthy glow too. I’m instructed to drink lots of water, take it easy for the rest of the day and leave the oils to work their magic for a further few hours. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday!

TOP TIP: As you would expect, essential oils are used on the scalp as well as the body so your hair may not look ‘date ready’ by the end of the treatment!
