Sunday night saw a talented group of footballers play for selection in a one-off charity match to be held at Portman Road in May.

Paul Milsom successfully bid at the Sir Bobby Robson Breakthrough Ball to take a team to the home of Ipswich Town, have full use of the facilities with Mick Mills as their manager and coach. The trial match took place on the AstroTurf pitch courtesy of Suffolk One in Ipswich.

Over 30 hopefuls spent an hour playing under the watchful eye of Mick Mills and Paul, hoping to be ‘spotted’ and get the chance to play on the main pitch at Portman Road.

Paul Milsom said ‘both Mick and I were really impressed with the quality of play; selection will not be easy. Several ex Ipswich Town players have agreed to play in our team so it will be great for our staff to get the chance to play with professional footballers at Portman Road.’

Their opponents will be a team led by Johnny Wheeler; Paul and Johnny have close links being lifelong family friends and business associates. Obviously, there is a lot of friendly rivalry between the two; Johnny was seen on the side-line hoping to get some inside information on the opposition!

Match day is Sunday 27th May with the kick off at 3.00pm so we hope that many of you will come along and support our boys. Tickets will be available from Le Talbooth, milsoms in Dedham and milsoms Kesgrave Hall and at Portman Road on the day. All proceeds will be going to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

Who’s been selected? That would be telling!
