Set back and beyond the gravel driveway, Talbooth House & Spa is a 4 AA Red Star hotel looking out across Constable’s Countryside and the Dedham Vale.

The hotel has twelve individually designed bedrooms, each different in style, decor and character. All named after English poets from Shakespeare and Keats to Newbolt and Betjeman; and there’s a copy of each poets most famous poem framed in each room. The hotel lends itself to a short break for a night or two, in fact the Dedham Vale was mentioned in the Telegraph as one of the top places for a ‘cheeky weekend’.

On arrival you’ll be greeted with a friendly welcome. Through the front door, the light and relaxed lounge will lead you through to the Garden Room, which opens fully to the outdoor terrace.

If you would like a little more activity, we have an excellent tennis court that overlooks the pool and the fantastic countryside views. The Talbooth House team can also arrange canoe, paddle board or bike hire, an excellent way to explore the Dedham Vale. The hotel is dog friendly with many interesting and varied walks on the doorstep.

Continental breakfast can be served in your room, alternatively pop down to Milsoms (5 minutes on foot or we can take you in the courtesy car) if you prefer a full breakfast.

For dinner and definitely a highlight of a stay in Dedham is the Talbooth Restaurant, with 3 AA rosettes, is our riverside restaurant serving outstanding food just a few minutes away in our courtesy car. Milsoms is closely located, open all day for dining with 1 AA rosette, and has a more informal menu within a contemporary interior.

Garden Room

The Garden Room also enjoys far-reaching views over the Dedham Vale and is great place to relax if staying in the hotel.

Talbooth Restaurant

Our 3 AA rosette riverside restaurant which is literally on the North Essex/Suffolk border, located in the heart of Constable Country, is just two minutes from Talbooth House. Alternatively, Milsoms is our relaxed and friendly brasserie. Our courtesy car will take you to either.

Outdoor Heated Pool

Our glistening aqua-blue pool can be seen from every angle of the spa and sets the scene for calmness and indulgence.

Our pool is adults-only. Children staying at Talbooth House are welcome to use the pool supervised between 8-9am and 5-6pm.

Beautiful Pool House

The Pool House complex includes the extended day spa, heated outdoor swimming pool, complete with hot tub, log burning fire, showers and changing areas.

Tennis Court

The tennis court on the upper lawn enjoys one of the best views in Colchester, right across the Dedham Vale.

3 new poolside treatment rooms. Taking bookings for full spa days, half day spa and after hours spa. You will still be able to enjoy a huge range of treatments from facials to massages and pedicures and manicures in the treatment rooms in the main house.

Standing on the steps of Talbooth House, overlooking Dedham Vale, it’s easy to see why artist John Constable was so inspired by this landscape.

More like a private stately home than a hotel, this 12-bedroom base puts you in deepest Dedham Vale — think sherbet-coloured cottages and strolls along the River Stour — yet just a 15-minute drive from Colchester.

Talbooth House & Spa is located along the leafy Stratford Road of Colchester and parking is easy on the gravel drive. If you arrive in good time, you can kick back in the lounge and flick through any number of magazines or the daily papers – enjoying a refreshing drink, snack or perhaps a glass of champagne.

You’ll be welcomed on arrival by our reception team who will introduce you to your therapist before heading to the treatment rooms.

We have three treatment rooms, two of which are twinned in case you’re visiting with a friend or partner. Elemis is the main brand of products we use, along with OPI for those all-important manicures and pedicures.

2 nights Weekend Friday/Saturday £10,000.00 (£13,000.00)

This will give you exclusivity of the house and gardens from 3.00pm on your day of arrival to 11.00am on the day of your departure (and exclusive use of the pool if booked).

Included in this rate is occupancy of all 12 bedrooms and full breakfast at Milsoms. Spa treatments, dinner, wine and any extras are charged as taken.

If travelling from London, turn off the M25 at Brentwood onto A12. Continue on A12 towards Ipswich, bypassing Colchester. Take the left exit signposted “Stratford St Mary, Dedham and Higham.” For Talbooth House, turn right at the bottom of the hill to Dedham, over the bridge and the hotel is approx 300yds along on the right.

Leave Ipswich on the A12 and when you pass the sign to East Bergholt, continue down hill and take left exit to Stratford St Mary and Dedham. Then take the next right turn to Stratford St Mary. For Talbooth House, continue past Talbooth Restaurant, take the next left to Dedham, over the bridge and Talbooth House is approx. 300yds on the right.

If travelling from Colchester High Street, continue onto East Hill and over the mini roundabout to East Street before turning left at the next mini roundabout onto Ipswich Road. At the next roundabout, take the first exit, then the second exit onto the A1232, signposted Harwich A120. Continue along this road until merging onto the A12, signposted Ipswich. After 2.5 miles, branch left then merge onto Ipswich Road. In half a mile, bear right onto Gun Hill. At the bottom of the hill turn right to Dedham, over the bridge and the hotel is approx 300yds along on the right.
