RELAX BY THE RIVERSIDE
Set in an idyllic setting beside the river Stour, our luxury riverside cottage, Idle Waters is a timber framed 16th century cottage on the north Essex/ Suffolk border.
Located in the heart of the Dedham Vale – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) – loved by generations of artists and known affectionately as ‘Constable Country’. The cottage features in John Constable painting entitled ‘The Vale of Dedham’, the original is currently on display in the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh.
The accommodation, which has just been completely refurbished by Geraldine Milsom, comprises an open plan fully fitted kitchen and dining area with doors leading out onto the garden, sitting room with bay window overlooking the river Stour, inglenook fireplace and huge leather sofas. Upstairs, the cottage has two delightful bedrooms with views over the river; both rooms have en-suite bathrooms, one with a bath/shower over and the other with a large walk in shower.
For those wishing to dine out, Le Talbooth is on the other side of the river Stour, almost in the cottage garden; the award-winning restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. While Milsoms, a contemporary bar and brasserie is just a couple of minutes walk away. The restaurant is open all day and with no need to book. Both restaurants offer outside dining in the summer.
Should guests wish to stay ‘at home’ and cook in the fabulous kitchen, then there’s a well-established farm shop in the village which stocks just about everything you will need.
The cottage is also perfect for friends, families and couples getting married at one of the Milsom Hotels or Restaurants (Le Talbooth or Maison Talbooth), either before or after their wedding day.
Idle Water is linked to Le Talbooth and Maison Talbooth, which means that guests staying at the cottage can use the outdoor pool and tennis court when the hotel is not booked for exclusive use. The Treatment Rooms, the hotel’s day spa is also available for Idle Waters guests to book a range of treatments.
