2020 was set to be a very special year for Harwich; it was the year that the town was going to celebrate one of its most famous son’s, Captain Christopher Jones.
Jones was the master of the Mayflower, the shop that sailed the pilgrims to the New World in 1620. Jones lived and was twice married in Harwich, as for the ship she was known as ‘Mayflower of Harwich’ in many of the shipping journals around that time so it is believed that she was built in or near to the town.
Although the celebrations are on hold in the town, nationally and internationally; The Pier felt it couldn’t let this significant part of Harwich history go unnoticed.
From Monday 12th right through October and November, The Pier will be a offering a special three course ‘Mayflower’ menu for £20.20 per person. The menu will change every two weeks and includes a nod to the US with dishes such as New England Clam Chowder, BBQ glazed chicken and baked New York cheesecake – and of course we haven’t forgotten fish and chips, they will definitely be on the menu every week!
The menu is available all day, every day apart from Saturday so make sure you book into The Pier soon and enjoy the ‘Mayflower 2020’.
