September has been an eventful month in the life of Milsom Hotels and on Thursday 27th September, we were delighted to learn that Paul Milsom, Managing Director, had been picked as the Essex Life Food & Drink Hero 2019 at the Essex Life Food & Drink Awards.
Here is the citation read out at the end of the awards:
‘Our Food & Drink Hero winner was born in the cottage that sits in the grounds of his company’s flagship restaurant, so perhaps his destiny was mapped out from the very start. The hospitality business he now runs was begun by his father back in the early 1950s, but our winner was determined to stand on his own feet in this industry. He graduated from Surrey University in 1987, where he studied Hospitality Management. During this time he also worked in both the US and at The Ritz in London as well as the wineries of Hugel in Alsace and Krug Champagne to gain experience and understanding of the hospitality trade.
Today, the business that bears his name continues to thrive and grow. Now with five gorgeous properties and a very busy events business, serving more than 350,000 covers annually, our winner is a hands on and ever-present operator. His wine knowledge is exceptional and passion for food unquestionable, but this award recognises his contribution to the Essex food and drink industry that goes beyond that.
Our winner is a loyal supporter of local suppliers and producers, an example of which is 67 continuous years of doing business with the Wheeler family of Mr Wheeler Wine. He has also been a passionate advocate for growing the profile of Essex, particular in Harwich, as well as ensuring that talented local people get the chance to improve their skills and develop their careers.
Our 2019 Essex Life Food & Drink Hero is Paul Milsom, Managing Director at Milsom Hotels & Restaurants.’
Paul Milsom said: “I was so pleased and very surprised to receive this award from Essex Life; but the award is not just about me but of the great group of Milsom People who we work alongside; their support and dedication makes the company what it is today. All in all, this has been quite a week for us, with Le Talbooth receiving three AA rosettes and Maison Talbooth awarded four AA red stars; this definitely constitutes a hat trick, this award is the icing on the cake.”
Congratulations to Paul, as he said, it has been an amazing week!
